Dog Bite Cases Surge in Sindh as Rabies Remains a Public Health Concern
Sindh has witnessed a sharp rise in dog bite incidents, with more than 85,000 cases reported during the first four months of the year. The growing numbers have renewed concerns over rabies prevention and public health safety across the province.
Authorities have launched anti-rabies initiatives, including the provision of vaccines and treatment facilities at healthcare centres. Efforts are also underway to manage the stray dog population through vaccination and control programmes.
Despite these measures, healthcare experts warn that challenges such as limited medical resources, inadequate outreach and the increasing number of stray dogs continue to hinder progress. Rural communities remain particularly vulnerable due to restricted access to timely treatment.
Rabies remains one of the world’s deadliest preventable diseases, making effective vaccination programmes, public awareness and improved healthcare services essential to reducing infections and saving lives.
