Canada’s first ever Canada Investment Summit has resulted in nearly $500 billion in new investment commitments for Canadian businesses, infrastructure and strategic industries, according to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government. The two-day summit in Toronto brought together investors from nearly 30 countries managing more than $100 trillion in assets.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said the summit delivered a clear message to global investors: “Canada is building big. Build with us.” He said the commitments represent a major step toward the government’s broader goal of catalyzing $1 trillion in total investment in Canada over five years.

Among the announced commitments, Canadian pension funds and institutional investors pledged nearly $100 billion in new capital, while Canada’s major banks committed nearly $325 billion in financing for businesses and infrastructure. Investment funds also committed to mobilize more than $14 billion for Canadian companies and strategic sectors.

A major highlight is a planned 1.2-gigawatt AI infrastructure hub in Saskatchewan, announced by Bell Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan. The project represents a $52.5 billion capital investment and is expected to create more than 4,500 jobs across construction, operations, management and related services.

The summit also featured new measures aimed at encouraging business investment, including the proposed Productivity Mega Deduction, which would permanently expand immediate expensing to a much broader range of investments. The government says the measure is intended to reduce the cost of investing and strengthen Canada’s competitiveness.

With major commitments spanning energy, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, defence, infrastructure and technology, the Canada Investment Summit marks a significant new chapter in Ottawa’s investment strategy. The government says the objective is to translate these commitments into more investment, stronger businesses, new infrastructure and jobs across Canada.

Canada is building big  and the next phase is turning investment commitments into projects, businesses and jobs.
