AJK General Elections Scheduled for July 27

The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has announced that general elections for the Legislative Assembly will be held on July 27, 2026.

According to the election schedule, candidates can submit nomination papers from June 9 to June 19, while scrutiny will be completed on June 20. Appeals regarding nomination papers will be heard between June 26 and June 27, with final decisions to be issued by June 29.

Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until June 30. The final list of contesting candidates and the allocation of election symbols will be published on July 2.

Polling across all constituencies will take place from 8am to 5pm on election day.

Separately, the AJK Legislative Assembly passed a resolution retaining 12 seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees. The resolution described refugee representation as a constitutional and historical requirement, while emphasizing that any future electoral reforms should be decided through the elected assembly after consultations with political parties, legal bodies, civil society and constitutional experts.
