OTTAWA: Canadian postal workers are awaiting the results of a vote on a tentative five-year agreement that could end a prolonged labour dispute involving Canada Post.
Members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have been voting on a proposed contract that includes wage increases spread over the first two years, alongside provisions related to job security and workplace reforms.
The union and Canada Post have been engaged in long-running negotiations marked by periodic strikes and disagreements over pay and structural changes in the postal service. Both sides had agreed to suspend strike and lockout actions during the voting period.
Union leadership remains divided on the proposed deal, with some officials supporting it while others have urged members to reject it, citing concerns over compensation and worker rights.
The outcome of the vote is expected to determine whether the agreement is ratified or whether the dispute continues.
