The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday directed the capital city’s chief commissioner to form a medical board to examine the health condition of Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, while disposing of a petition requesting his transfer to a private hospital.

The petition had sought permission to move the former prime minister to Shifa International Hospital for treatment related to an eye condition. The case was heard by a division bench of the high court.

In its written order, the court instructed authorities to establish a medical board that will evaluate Khan’s health and determine whether his condition requires treatment at a hospital outside the jail.

The court also directed that doctors Arif and Nadeem Qureshi be included in the medical board.

According to the court’s instructions, Khan’s family should be kept informed about his health in accordance with prison rules, and Dr Nadeem Qureshi should maintain communication with the family regarding updates on his medical condition.

The order further noted that the PTI founder should be allowed to meet his lawyers and family members in line with earlier directives issued by the court.

However, the request to transfer him from jail to a private hospital was not approved.
