U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a $5,000 payment to every American adult if Republicans retain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.

Dubbed the “Trump Dividend,” the proposal could cost the U.S. government an estimated $1.35 trillion if extended to roughly 270 million adults. The plan would require Congressional approval, and details on eligibility, funding and implementation remain unclear.

Trump also urged voters to support Republican candidates, making the proposed cash payment a major talking point heading into the midterms.
