Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday criticised federal ministers who have been calling for the establishment of new provinces and administrative units as the products of “Form-47” rather than real “public representatives”.
The debate over new provinces started in late July when Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi called for the creation of additional administrative units or provinces to overhaul the country’s outdated governance system, stressing that meaningful structural reforms were essential to ensure justice and create opportunities for young people. This has resulted in a series of remarks thrown back and forth from major political parties in Sindh and various federal ministers.
Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, Memon described statements by federal ministers about the provinces and the 18th Amendment in recent days as “extremely regrettable”.
Memon criticised Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Health Minister Mustafa Kamal for making statements against the 18th Amendment, saying that if they had any objection to the amendment or the powers of the provinces, then they should “come to the parliament and speak”.
