Pakistan Play 1,000th ODI in Historic Match Against Australia
Pakistan reached a major milestone on Saturday, playing their 1,000th One Day International during the opening match of the three-match series against Australia at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The team, which played its first ODI in 1973 against New Zealand in Christchurch, has now featured in 1,000 matches, winning 527 and losing 442. Nine matches ended in ties, while 21 produced no result.
Over the decades, Pakistan has achieved several landmark successes in the format, including winning the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 1992 and the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy in 2017.
With this milestone, Pakistan becomes only the third team in history to reach 1,000 ODI appearances, after India and Australia. India leads the list with over 1,000 matches, followed closely by Australia.
The historic occasion was marked at the toss, where Australia captain presented a commemorative souvenir to Pakistan skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Afridi described the moment as a proud achievement for the team, saying the squad aimed to enjoy the occasion while focusing on securing a victory in the landmark match.
