Special Report by Mehboob Ali Shaikh
Canada celebrated its 159th Canada Day with spectacular festivities across provinces and cities, as millions of Canadians came together to honor the nation’s unity, diversity, democracy, and shared future. The celebrations featured fireworks, cultural performances, concerts, and community events, while national leaders emphasized that Canada’s greatest strength lies in its people and their ability to remain united despite their differences.
Among those participating in the national celebrations were Prime Minister Mark Carney, Governor General Louise Arbour, Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and many other distinguished guests.
Ottawa Celebrates Canada’s Unity
Speaking during the official Canada Day ceremony in Ottawa, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada’s greatest achievement is that people of different languages, cultures, religions, and backgrounds continue to live together as one nation.
He stressed that Canada was built on the principle that “unity does not require uniformity.” According to the Prime Minister, Canada’s foundation rests on partnership, reconciliation, mutual respect, and democratic values—not on force, domination, or enforced conformity.
Reflecting on the challenges of the past year, Carney said Canadians have demonstrated extraordinary courage, resilience, and solidarity during an increasingly uncertain and divided global environment.
He added that despite global crises, Canadians continue to stand beside one another and work together to build a stronger future.
“Canada is a country worth fighting for,” he declared.
Tribute to Canadian Astronaut Jeremy Hansen
During the national ceremony, Prime Minister Carney paid special tribute to Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who is set to become the first Canadian to travel around the Moon as part of NASA’s historic Artemis II mission.
Jeremy Hansen later addressed the crowd, encouraging young Canadians to pursue careers in science, innovation, exploration, and to never stop believing in their dreams.
Governor General: Canada Continues to Grow Stronger
Governor General Louise Arbour said she has always been proud to represent Canada throughout her international career.
She described Canada as a nation committed to continuous improvement, reconciliation, and strengthening the voices of Indigenous Peoples while building an even more inclusive future.
National Identity and Unity
Federal Minister for Canadian Identity Mark Miller said several events over the past year have brought Canadians closer together.
He noted that growing national pride, the defense of Canada’s sovereignty amid international political rhetoric, and the country’s achievements in international football have all reinforced a stronger sense of unity.
“Canada is a beautiful project that is still being built,” he said.
Mississauga Makes History
The City of Mississauga made history by hosting one of the largest and most memorable Canada Day celebrations ever held in the city’s history.
Under the leadership of Mayor Carolyn Parrish, thousands of residents and visitors packed Celebration Square, transforming the downtown core into a vibrant display of Canadian pride, multicultural harmony, and national unity.
Despite the intense summer heat, families, friends, and visitors gathered in massive numbers, proving once again that Mississauga is one of Canada’s most dynamic, diverse, and united cities.
Speaking during the celebrations, Mayor Carolyn Parrish said the overwhelming public participation demonstrated the city’s remarkable community spirit and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Community Leaders Praise the Celebration
Canadian Members of Parliament Fares Al Soud, Peter Fonseca, and Iqra Khalid praised the outstanding public response, saying that even the extreme heat could not diminish the Canadian spirit.
They said families, friends, and visitors celebrated the nation’s birthday with joy, pride, and love, creating unforgettable memories together.
The leaders also commended Peel Regional Police, firefighters, paramedics, volunteers, and event staff for their exceptional security, organization, and dedication, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone attending the celebrations.
As Canada celebrates its 159th birthday, the message echoed from coast to coast is clear: Canada’s true strength lies not in its size, but in its unity, diversity, resilience, and unwavering belief that people from every background can build one shared future together.
