Leaders of the G7, during their summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and welcomed a temporary peace arrangement in the Iran–United States conflict.
During the meeting, leaders also emphasized the need to diversify the global energy system in order to reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical routes for oil transportation.
According to sources, an interim ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States is taking shape and could pave the way for negotiations toward a more permanent peace settlement.
In their joint statement, G7 leaders stressed the importance of reducing regional risks, including concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, and reaffirmed that Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons.
As part of the discussions, an extension of a temporary 60-day ceasefire is also reportedly under consideration, while tensions in Lebanon remain high amid ongoing friction between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.
Following these developments, global energy markets saw a decline in crude oil prices, and analysts suggest that reopening the Strait of Hormuz could improve global supply levels.
The G7 also announced plans to shift energy supply chains toward alternative routes to reduce future dependence on this region.
