PM Directs Plan to Export Surplus Food to Gulf Countries

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive action plan for exporting surplus food items to Gulf countries while ensuring that domestic food requirements remain fully protected.

Chairing a meeting in Lahore, the prime minister reviewed the country’s food security situation and discussed strategies to enhance food exports in light of changing regional dynamics. He emphasised the importance of closely monitoring supply and demand to ensure that the country’s needs are fully met.

Highlighting recent regional developments and disruptions in global supply chains, the prime minister noted that these changes have created new opportunities for Pakistani agricultural products in Gulf markets. He stressed that exports to Gulf countries must meet high quality standards.

The prime minister also instructed the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation to take necessary steps to facilitate exports through maritime routes.

During the meeting, officials briefed participants on the availability and production of food items, stating that Pakistan currently has sufficient stocks and there is no shortage of essential commodities.

It was further noted that Pakistan’s agricultural sector — including crops, meat, poultry, dairy, and seafood — holds significant potential for export.

Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the formation of a committee to review the situation on a daily basis and asked Pakistani ambassadors and trade officers in Gulf countries to remain proactive in promoting exports.
