The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) has reported that the US-Israeli conflict with Iran has temporarily displaced between 600,000 and one million Iranian households, affecting up to 3.2 million people, a number expected to rise as bombings continue. Most are fleeing major cities, including Tehran, toward northern and rural areas in search of safety.

Afghan refugee families are among the most vulnerable, facing heightened insecurity and limited access to essential services. UNHCR, with its longstanding presence in Iran, is scaling up its response by working with national authorities and partners to assess needs, provide support, and strengthen preparedness amid increasing population movements.

The agency emphasized the urgent need to protect civilians, maintain humanitarian access, and keep borders open for those seeking safety, in accordance with international obligations.
