KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared a 15-day spring vacation for schools and colleges across the province.
Provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Tuesday that all public and private educational institutions will remain closed from March 16 to March 31.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the provincial cabinet.
According to the minister, colleges and universities throughout the province have been instructed to continue academic activities through online classes during the holiday period.
Despite the temporary closure of educational institutions, the provincial government has decided that examinations will proceed according to the existing schedule.
Sharjeel Inam Memon clarified that the exam timetable will not be altered, and students will appear in their examinations as planned.
Earlier, the Punjab government had also announced the closure of schools from March 10 to March 31.
The provincial decisions follow a nationwide austerity initiative introduced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which included measures aimed at reducing expenditures and conserving energy in response to the global fuel crisis linked to the ongoing tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Pakistan, like several other nations, has been experiencing supply pressures after disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global oil transportation, which has impacted fuel shipments worldwide.
The situation intensified after Iran launched retaliatory strikes against US military facilities in the Middle East following joint attacks by Washington and Tel Aviv, complicating the ability of major oil-producing countries to supply energy to international markets.
Amid these supply challenges, Pakistan recently increased petrol and diesel prices by approximately 20 percent. In response, both federal and provincial governments have introduced austerity and energy-saving measures to control consumption and support economic stability.
