The 4th Canadian Division was formally stood down during a distinguished ceremony held at Denison Armoury in Toronto, marking an important stage in the Canadian Army’s modernization and reorganization efforts.
On the occasion of the ceremony, I had the honour of attending alongside Lieutenant-General M.C. Wright, CMM, MMV, CD, Commander of the Canadian Army, and Brigadier-General Éric Landry, MSM, CD, Commander of the 4th Canadian Division and Joint Task Force Central.
The ceremony marked an important transition for the Canadian Army as it moves forward with its modernization efforts and an evolving operational structure.
As a journalist, it was a distinct honour and privilege for me to attend the 4th Canadian Division Stand-Down Ceremony.
The ceremony honoured the soldiers and leaders who served under the 4th Canadian Division banner, as well as their families. It was an important occasion to recognize their service and achievements and to acknowledge the continued support provided by their loved ones.
The ceremony paid tribute to the service and sacrifices of the soldiers and leaders who served under the 4th Canadian Division banner, as well as the important role played by their families.
In particular, The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable Edith Dumont, attended the ceremony and, in her remarks, paid tribute to the service and sacrifices of the soldiers and leaders and to their invaluable contributions to Canada.
Ceremonies of this nature carry tremendous significance because they help preserve and pass on the values of service, sacrifice, leadership, duty, and commitment to Canada to future generations.
The dignitaries thanked the members of the Canadian Armed Forces and everyone who contributed to marking this important occasion with dignity, respect, and recognition.
The ceremony also marked a transition to a new structure through the establishment of the Canadian Army Support Division (CASD) as part of the Canadian Army’s broader modernization and reorganization efforts.
This initiative is aligned with the strategic direction set by the Government of Canada. The Canadian Army Support Division (CASD) will assume command of Army Support Groups across the country, with the transition beginning on September 10, 2026.
While the ceremony marked an important moment of transition and change, it also provided an opportunity to honour the dedication, professionalism, and national service of the Canadian Armed Forces.
