Dubai/Tel Aviv/Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure will be paused for 10 days following a request from Tehran, while diplomatic discussions between the two sides continue.

Trump stated that negotiations were progressing positively and suggested that Iran had asked for a temporary halt in strikes. However, Iranian officials have rejected parts of the US proposal, describing it as one-sided and unfair.

The conflict, which began after military strikes on February 28 following the collapse of nuclear negotiations, has resulted in heavy casualties and widespread regional disruption, including rising global energy prices and instability in shipping routes.

Economic impacts have been significant, with crude oil prices rising sharply and global energy and fertiliser markets affected by supply disruptions.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, hostilities have continued, with both sides reportedly exchanging strikes and regional tensions remaining high.

The US has also increased its military presence in the region, including the deployment of unmanned naval systems for patrol operations.

Iran has not officially confirmed agreement to a 10-day pause, and discussions between mediators and both parties are still ongoing.
