KARACHI — MQM-P Senior Deputy Convener Farooq Sattar has called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to reconsider the removal of Kamran Tessori and reinstate him as Sindh governor. Tessori, a senior MQM-P leader, was replaced last week by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Nehal Hashmi, with the federal government reportedly not consulting the party before the decision.
Tessori had served as Sindh governor since October 2022, following Imran Ismail’s departure. Despite the change, Hashmi, who took oath last week, emphasized that MQM-P remains a coalition partner of the PML-N at the federal level.
Born in Karachi on January 28, 1960, Hashmi is a veteran lawyer and politician. He joined the PML-N in 1992, has served in the Senate, and held key party positions in Sindh and Karachi. Hashmi’s career includes advisory roles to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and involvement in high-profile legal cases, though he faced temporary expulsion and a brief prison sentence linked to a contempt of court case in 2018.
