Toronto: Police in Canada are investigating after unidentified individuals fired several shots at the United States Consulate in Toronto in what authorities have described as a potential national security incident.
According to officials, the shooting occurred early Tuesday at approximately 4:30 a.m. local time (08:30 GMT).
Deputy Chief Frank Barredo of the Toronto Police Service said officers responding to the scene discovered multiple shell casings and signs of damage to the building.
Investigators are currently working to determine the motive behind the attack and to identify the suspects involved.
Meanwhile, the United States Department of State said it is aware of the incident and is closely following developments while coordinating with local law enforcement authorities.
The incident comes shortly after police in Norway began investigating an explosion that occurred outside the United States Embassy in Oslo on Sunday in Oslo.
