Lahore: The district administration has announced a local holiday in Lahore on March 11, 2023, on the occasion of the annual Urs of Sufi saint Shah Hussain, also known as Madho Lal Hussain.
According to an official notification, the holiday will apply only within Lahore District and its subordinate offices. The announcement was made ahead of the annual celebrations marking the Urs.
The event, widely known as Mela Chiraghan, is held every year and attracts large gatherings featuring traditional cultural activities, including devotional music, qawwali performances, and lamp-lighting ceremonies.
Shah Hussain, a 16th-century Punjabi Sufi poet, is regarded as a prominent figure in South Asian spiritual and literary tradition. His poetry is known for themes of love, devotion, and spiritual unity.
