PML-N veteran Nehal Hashmi was sworn in as the new governor of Sindh on Friday, following his unexpected appointment the previous day. The oath was administered by Sindh High Court Chief Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput at a ceremony in Karachi attended by senior leaders, including PPP’s Saeed Ghani and Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Hashmi emphasized his commitment to political struggle guided by faithfulness and honesty. He highlighted his party’s focus on peace, development, and youth empowerment through initiatives such as laptop distributions, training programs, and loan schemes.
Hashmi also pledged that federal institutions in Sindh would function effectively and expressed his intent to follow the example of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in promoting progress. He stressed resolving issues through dialogue rather than engaging in divisive politics.
A seasoned politician, Hashmi previously served as a PML-N senator after his 2015 election but was disqualified in 2018 following a controversial speech in 2017. His appointment as governor, replacing MQM’s Kamran Tessori, was approved by President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday, following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recommendation.
