Health authorities have confirmed cases of monkeypox among newborns in Sindh’s Khairpur district after infants developed unusual skin symptoms earlier last month.
Laboratory tests verified the infections, while an expert review indicated that some of the reported deaths were linked to premature birth and existing health complications rather than the virus itself.
Officials have temporarily shut down neonatal intensive care units at two hospitals as investigations continue to identify the source of infection. Contact tracing efforts are underway, and healthcare facilities have been instructed to implement strict infection control measures.
Authorities stated that the situation remains under control and advised the public to seek medical attention if symptoms appear.
