LONDON: Police said on Saturday that 212 people were arrested during a protest in Trafalgar Square against the UK government’s ban on the Palestine Action group.

The demonstration took place following a High Court ruling that found the proscription of the pro-Palestinian organisation unlawful, although authorities have since been granted permission to appeal the decision.

The group had been banned under anti-terrorism legislation last year after some of its members reportedly entered a Royal Air Force base, prompting the government to designate it as a proscribed organisation.

During the protest, participants gathered in central London holding placards, Palestinian flags, and wearing traditional scarves, with many sitting peacefully in the square.

London police said arrests were made for showing support for a banned organisation, and operations continued throughout the demonstration.
