ISLAMABAD: A high-level Iranian parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf arrived in Islamabad on Saturday for talks linked to efforts aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East following a recently brokered ceasefire.
The delegation includes Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and is scheduled to take part in discussions with international counterparts in Islamabad, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Upon arrival, the visiting delegation was received by senior Pakistani leadership, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Officials said Pakistan has expressed hope for constructive engagement, with leadership emphasizing support for dialogue aimed at achieving a durable and lasting resolution to the regional crisis.
The talks come after a two-week ceasefire following weeks of conflict involving the United States and Iran, with Pakistan playing a mediating role in facilitating the truce. However, tensions remain over key issues including sanctions, regional security, and maritime access routes.
Both sides are expected to present competing proposals during the discussions, while international stakeholders have welcomed efforts to continue diplomatic engagement and prevent further escalation in the region.
