TEHRAN/WASHINGTON: Iran has said it is seeking a permanent end to the ongoing war with the United States and Israel, while rejecting pressure to accept a temporary ceasefire or immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz under a short-term arrangement.

According to Iranian state media, Tehran has conveyed its response to a US peace proposal through Pakistan, insisting that any agreement must lead to a lasting settlement rather than a limited ceasefire. The response reportedly includes a 10-point framework covering regional de-escalation, safe maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, and post-war reconstruction.

US President Donald Trump, however, rejected the Iranian counter-proposal, saying it did not go far enough and warning that a deadline to reach a deal would not be extended.

Amid ongoing diplomatic efforts, reports suggest a Pakistan-mediated framework has been discussed involving an immediate ceasefire followed by broader negotiations to be completed within weeks. However, both sides appear divided over the terms and timeline of any agreement.

Iran has also resisted calls to quickly reopen the Strait of Hormuz under a temporary deal, maintaining that broader security guarantees are required. The waterway remains a critical global energy route, and tensions in the region have kept oil markets volatile.

Meanwhile, regional hostilities continue, with fresh strikes and missile exchanges reported across multiple fronts involving Iran, Israel, and allied groups. Casualties have been reported on both sides as the conflict escalates further.

Iranian officials maintain that their position is not a compromise but a reflection of national security concerns, while international mediators continue efforts to prevent further escalation and stabilize the region.
