KARACHI: Actress Hania Aamir has spoken out against online toxicity and the growing trend of pitting women against each other, saying the criticism she faces reflects discomfort with “confident and unapologetic women.”

In a video shared on social media, the actor revealed she had taken a break after feeling overwhelmed by ongoing backlash. She said the experience led her to reflect on public reactions to her personality and presence online.

Known for her lively and candid social media activity, Hania Aamir enjoys strong popularity among younger audiences but has also faced frequent criticism over her content and personal choices.

She noted that negative commentary on women remains rooted in traditional mindsets, now amplified through digital platforms. According to her, online spaces have intensified judgment, often focusing on appearance and personal expression.

The actor also criticised the trend of comparing female celebrities, questioning why similar comparisons are rarely made between male figures. She urged people, especially women, to reflect on internalised biases and avoid contributing to a culture that discourages individuality.

Calling for greater acceptance, she emphasised the need to allow individuals to express themselves freely without fear of backlash. The statement comes after recent criticism over her festive attire, which sparked debate on cultural expression and personal style.
