Assemblers raise e-bike prices as demand grows

Electric bike prices have increased by around Rs5,000 amid growing demand driven by rising petrol costs. Assemblers have cited higher freight charges, increased logistics expenses, and rising transportation costs as key reasons behind the hike.

The new prices, effective in early April, have pushed electric bike rates to between Rs125,000 and Rs350,000, depending on battery type and specifications.

Transporters have also raised goods delivery charges significantly following the surge in diesel prices, further impacting production and supply costs.

Market trends indicate a shift toward electric bikes, as consumers seek affordable alternatives to expensive fuel. Increased demand has led to supply shortages, while sales of petrol-powered bikes are showing signs of slowing.

Experts believe that if fuel prices continue to rise, electric bikes could gain a stronger foothold in the market despite challenges such as limited resale value and infrastructure issues.
