Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Monday questioned a four-hour delay in the Shalimar Express that was to carry his protest caravan from Sukkur to Multan, asking whether the disruption was linked to his party’s march towards Islamabad, as the “second phase” of the mobilisation got under way.
JI had set its protest caravan in motion from Karachi towards the federal capital on Sunday, reached Sukkur late Sunday aboard the Rehman Baba Express and was scheduled to continue to Multan on the Shalimar Express.
However, the train was around four hours late reaching Sukkur on Monday.
“Does this delay have anything to do with our train march? Shalimar Express, which is not only a popular train but has been privatised, is delayed by four hours today,” he said.
“If this delay in its [Shalimar Express] is a usual delay, then the federal government should explain the performance of Pakistan Railways,” Rehman said.
