Boston Stadium, Foxborough, USA: Defending champions France once again showcased their power, class, and experience by defeating Morocco 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2026, securing a well-deserved place in the semifinals. The defeat brought Morocco’s remarkable World Cup journey to an end, while France once again proved why they remain one of the most formidable teams in world football.

From the opening whistle, France adopted an aggressive approach, relentlessly attacking and putting Morocco’s defense under constant pressure. Although Morocco’s goalkeeper produced a series of outstanding saves in the first half to keep his side in the contest, France’s dominance made it clear that a breakthrough was only a matter of time.

In the second half, French superstar Kylian Mbappé once again demonstrated his world-class quality. After recovering from an earlier missed penalty, he produced a brilliant finish to give France the lead. It was his eighth goal of the FIFA World Cup 2026, drawing him level with Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.

France continued to press forward instead of defending their advantage. Mbappé then turned provider, delivering a superb pass to Ousmane Dembélé, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to double France’s lead and seal a convincing 2-0 victory.

With his latest strike, Mbappé took his overall FIFA World Cup career tally to 20 goals, moving to within one goal of Lionel Messi’s World Cup record. He also strengthened his remarkable record in the knockout stages, reaching 12 knockout-stage goals, making him one of the most prolific players in World Cup history.

French supporters were left anxious in the closing moments of the match when Mbappé was forced off the field with an apparent injury. Although the extent of the injury was not immediately confirmed, his fitness has become France’s biggest concern ahead of the semifinal.

France’s emphatic victory not only secured a place in the semifinals but also sent a powerful message to the rest of the tournament: the defending champions remain firmly on course in their quest to retain the FIFA World Cup title, while Morocco’s inspiring and historic campaign came to a proud conclusion.
