LAHORE: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) is set to recommend a performance-based funding model for national sports federations under the proposed National Sports Policy 2026.

The proposal suggests allocating government grants based on the activities and achievements of federations rather than administrative considerations. Federations would be placed into different categories according to their performance and level of participation in sporting events.

Sports officials have welcomed efforts to introduce a new sports policy, emphasizing the need for stronger cooperation between the government and sports bodies to improve the country’s sporting standards and develop emerging talent.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, with Pakistan expected to send a sizeable contingent of athletes and officials. Sports authorities believe regular youth competitions and improved funding mechanisms can help strengthen Pakistan’s future performance in international events.
