British Columbia Launches New PR Pathway for Health Support Workers

The Government of British Columbia has announced full eligibility details for a new temporary immigration pathway that will help selected health support workers obtain permanent residency.

The initiative is open to janitors, cleaners and security guards employed full-time by a B.C. health authority in eligible rural or remote communities. Registration will open on June 15, 2026, and close on August 31, 2026, with up to 250 workers expected to be nominated.

To qualify, applicants must have worked full-time in an eligible occupation with the same health authority for at least nine months before registration. Candidates must also meet education, income, language and other provincial nomination requirements.

Only direct employees of participating health authorities are eligible, while workers employed through contractors will not qualify. Certain urban regions have also been excluded from the program, with eligibility focused on rural and remote communities facing workforce shortages.

The initiative forms part of British Columbia’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare services, support essential workers and address critical labour needs across the province.
